Mr. Hulcher was born in Stedorf, Germany, April 28, 1845, and married Miss Marie Kattenberg, Dec. 8, 1876, at Waltzrode, Germany. Six years later he left Germany for the United States arriving at New York June 14, 1882. He settled at Atwater, Ill. where he resided until twenty-two years ago when he came to Macoupin county and settled near Virden.
Surviving are his wife and ten children, as follows: Five sons. W.F. Hulcher of Girard, A.L., Adolph and Elmer of Virden, and John H. Hulcher of Springfield; five daughters, Mrs. C.O. Stratton of Nilwood, Mrs. D.M. Burgess of Virden and the Misses Grace, Matilda and Rose of Virden; one brother in Germany and seven grand-children.
Funeral services will be held at the home at 9:45 o'clock this (Wednesday) morning and at 1:30 o'clock this afternoon at the Lutheran church in Carlinville, Prof. R.D. Biedermann of Concordia college, Springfield, officiating, assisted by Rev. H.O. Belton of Virden. Burial will be in the Lutheran cemetery at Carlinville.
A special interurban car will leave Virden at 12:10 o'clock this afternoon for Carlinville for those who wish to attend the services in Carlinville.
