Kirk was born on April 16, 1939 in Lewistown, PA, son of the late Charles John and Ruth Marie Heilhecker Glunk. He moved to Detroit as a young child and graduated from Denby High School in 1957. Kirk transferred to North Carolina in 1972 where he resided in Charlotte. After dedicating his entire professional working career with Noxell/Proctor and Gamble, Kirk retired in 1999. He didn't rest long after retirement, as he quickly immersed himself with church activities and many volunteer efforts. Kirk was an incredibly brave, humble, and selfless man and modestly exemplified what a good and decent person should be - easily and generously giving of himself and to those in need - always without question or hesitation.
Krik embraced everyone he met, making instant friends, and he remained loyal and always kept his word. Kirk's sense of humor and quick wit would liven any room. He loved gardening and tending to his fish pond. He traveled with his wife in their RV, making many memories along the way. He was an active member of Knights of Columbus and was a very active church member. Most of all, Kirk loved his family. His "three girls," Marge, Kim and Karen were often times the recipient of his humor and teasing, and he always made time to give his attention and playfulness to his grandchildren.
Survivors include wife of 49 years, Margaret Mary Kus Glunk "Marge" of Matthews; daughters, Kimberly Ann Mans and husband Paul Quackenbush of Raleigh, and Karen Rose Martin and husband Scott of Charlotte; grandchildren, Kirk Charles Mans and Michael John Mans of Raleigh, Madison Rose Martin of Charlotte and Alyssa Lee Quackenbush of Raleigh; siblings, Jane G. Smith of Harrisburg, PA, Charles William Glunk "Bill" (Rhoda) of Sarasota, FL, Robert John Emmons "Bob" (Christine) of Santa Barbara, CA and cherished twin sister, Karen Rose Davis "Kay" (Jim) of Overland Park, Kansas.
In honor of Kirk's volunteer efforts, donations may be made to the many charities he supported directly through The Knights of Columbus Council #10852 of St. Matthew Catholic Church.
Arrangements are in the care of Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington Chapel. An online guestbook is available at www.heritagefuneral.net
