Catherine Jane "Duck" Fortney was born April, 1851, and died January 24, 1873. She was the oldest child of Hiram Jasper and Sarah Ann Metz Fortney. She was married to Elmer Harbert of Nolan's Run. One child was born to this union: Martha B. Harbert, born January 10, 1873, died April 30, 1873.
Catherine Jane or "Duck" as she was usually called, died from childbirth, and Grandmother Catherine Orr Fortney, born June 26, 1825, died April 19, 1914, cared for the child, Martha B. Harbert, until she too died at the age of a little over three months.
The father and husband, Elmer Harbert, lived to be a very old man and often visited at the home of Hiram Fortney's (Catherine's father). Elmer Harbert married a second time and raised several children. He preceded his second wife in death.
