Henry Millard Baker was the son of Hortense Lee and Solomon Emory (Bud) Baker. He was born in Colson, Letcher County, Kentucky. By 1900 he is living in Millstone, Kentucky with his father and step mother and brothers,(Luther age 18, Elijah age 16 and Clarence Baker age 13). His 1917 Draft record describes him as tall and stout with brown hair and eyes. Previous military experience as a non Comissioned officer Coastal/Art'ly and at the time of registration he worked as a Clerk for his father in Whitesburg, Kentucky and was not married. By 1920 he is married living with his wife Cora Baker and baby 1-year-old son Hanry Millard Baker Junior and is listed as Police Leutenant for Louisville, Jefferson County, KY Police Dept. Our Reynolds family has a photograph of "Millard Baker's children" and is of a young boy and a younger girl which tells us he also had a daughter. His Death record is reported by his wife Cora A Baker states that his usual occupation was propietor of soda fountain stand. Sadly they lived at a time of alchohol prohibition and this so far is what I found about his death:

"Louisville KY- July 26, 1922 Federal Agents find quartet at distillery with loaded truck. Ten Federal agents acting on anominous tip uncovered 4 alleged liquor runnors leaving a distillary near the business district early today with a truck laden with 25 barrels of whiskey. one man killed, probably fatally wounded another and arrested one. The fourth man escaped. The man Killed was former Leutenant of police Henry Baker. The alleged rum runners drove their truck into the Federal agents and opened fire. The government officers were armed with pistols and rifles.

Henry Millard Baker was preceded in death by his brother Clarence D. Baker who died at the age of 15 and is buried with the grandparents Elijah Willis Baker and Mary Polly (Yonts) Baker in a cemetery in Millstone, Kentucky. According to Henry Millard Bakers Death record he is burried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville. I believe Cora was pregnant at the time of his death.
