Lucinda "Gladys" Tharp, age 87, of Ottumwa, IA, a former resident of Bloomfield and Moulton, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa, IA. She was born the daughter of Samuel and Lillian May(Gaither)Nevins in January 3, 1916 in Higbee, Missouri. She received her education at the Ottumwa Comminity Schools.

On June 3, 1933, Gladys was united in marriage to Pearl Austin Tharp in Lancaster, Missouri. She was a homemaker and a member of the Moulton United Methodist Church.

Gladys was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Pearl on April 26, 1979; brothers, Carl, Charles, Ralph, Robert, Donald, George and Richard Nevins; sisters, Martha Millard, Ruth Andrews, Helen Worth, and Evelyn Nevins.

She is survived by: daughters, Donna Burns and her husband, Kendall of Ottumwa, Iowa and JoAnn Clancy and her husband Bill of Largo, Florida; sons, John S. Tharp and his wife, Betty and Gary L. Tharp all of Bloomfield, Iowa; 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2004 at 11am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Moulton, Iowa with Steve Houser officiating. Burial wil be held at the Hardin Cemetery north of Moulton, Iowa. Public visitation will be held on Friday, January 2, 2004 from 2:30-8pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Moulton. Family will be present from 6-7pm at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the Hospice House of Ottumwa.
