Victor Behre was killed by a hit-and-run driver while crossing the street. The driver turned himself in the next day, a 22-yr old, named M Gardner Smith, of Newport News, driving an 1934 Ford. Smith was fined $1000, and sentenced to 2 to 5 years, suspended, on his plea of guilty of failing to stop.
