Kenneth Harris "Ken" Gardner was born on May 4, 1907 in Hurdsfield, North Dakota, the eldest of 5 children born to James Hammond Gardner (1875-1940) and Adella Alice "Della" (Harris) Gardner (1881-1957). Although born in North Dakota, he was 6 years old when the Gardner family moved to Montana and settled in the small community of Axtel in what later became Richland County

About 1925 his parents and siblings moved south to Los Angeles County, California, but Kenneth opted to stay in Montana where he'd gone to school with, and intended to marry, Mildred Isabelle Collins (1908-1984), the daughter of Roy Day Collins (1880-1960) and Edith "Lillian" (Boyes) Collins (1878-1973).

Living in the small town of Fairview, right on the state line separating North Dakota and Montana, about 100 miles south of Canada, Ken and Mildred raised their daughter. On February 1, 1935 he went into partnership with his father-in-law Roy and brother-in-law Carlos as Collins Mercantile Company, a John Deere implement dealership, a partnership that Ken and Carlos continued after Roy's death.

By the time Ken retired, he and Mildred had a winter home in Orange County, California, and they eventually settled in Southern California permanently.

Mildred passed away in 1984 and Kenneth was married 2nd in 1986 in Orange Co, California to family friend and widow Agnes Marie (Huselid) Runyon (1908–1995).

Ken passed away on June 18, 1999 in Lake Forest, Orange County, California. His body was cremated and his ashes were spread on the Pacific Ocean between Long Beach and Catalina Island, as had been done with the ashes of his 1st wife. What looks like a cemetery marker ISN'T a cemetery marker but just a MEMORIAL PLAQUE that was placed in Fairview Cemetery in the general area of Fairview, Montana where Kenneth and Mildred lived most of their lives.

Children of Ken and Mildred:
~ Mary Lee Gardner (1930-2003)
~ Sydney Mike Gardner (1939- ), adopted
