Albert J. Moncavage, 93, of Mahanoy City, died Friday morning at St. Luke's Pavilion, Hazleton.

Born in Mahanoy City, he was a son of the late Stanley and Eugenia Monkiewicz.

He was a 1937 graduate of Mahanoy City High School.

He served in Army in the European Theater of Operations during World War II, where he was held in France and Germany as a prisoner of war for several months.

He retired from the SKF Ball Bearing Co., Philadelphia, where he worked and resided for more than 30 years, returning to Mahanoy City in 1981.

He was a member of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Church, Mahanoy City.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his wife, the former Evelyn D'Alessandro, in 2007; and brothers, Daniel, Edward, Stanley, and Alfonse; and sisters, Sophie and Jean.

The last member of his immediate family, he is survived by nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Church, Mahanoy City, with the Rev. Kevin P. Gallagher as the celebrant.

Interment with military honors will be in St. Casimir Cemetery, Mahanoy Township.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass on Monday at the church. David D. Jarrett Funeral Home, Mahanoy City, is in charge of arrangements.
