Candelario G. Hernandez Sr. of Saginaw, Michigan, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2012, at home. Age 71 years. He was born February 2, 1941, in San Antonio, Texas, moving to Saginaw as a young man. He had been employed by General Motors for 41 years, retiring in September of 2001, and was a member of UAW Local 699. He was an accomplished musician, playing with various bands and Gospel groups. He married Consuelo Garcia on January 2, 1962, celebrating 50 years of marriage this year. She survives him, along with three daughters, one son and their spouses, Alice and Arturo DeLeon, Holland; Diane and Rick McNalley, Birch Run; Candelario Hernandez Jr., Saginaw, and Nieves Hernandez, Saginaw. Another daughter, Melissa Hernandez, predeceased him. He also leaves 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred (Barbara) Hernandez, Crescencio (Maria) Hernandez Jr.; five sisters, Magdalena (Herman) Garcia, Juanita (Reyes) Gonzalez, Maria (Guadalupe) Silvas, Rosa (Benny) Luna, and Consuelo (Guadalupe) Ramirez; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and their families. He was also predeceased by a grandson, Candelario Hernandez III; his father, Crescencio Hernandez Sr.; his mother and her husband, Isadora and Manuel Lomas; and a sister, Guadalupe Flores. Funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 13, 2012, at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, where his family will receive friends from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, and then on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
