Mrs. Young Dies At Age Of 74;

Mrs. Darwin Young, 74 of Chicago Heights, formerly of Fairfield, died May 13 at the McCradie Hospital in Chicago Heights after an illness of several years.
Funeral services were held at the Nale Funeral Chapel Sunday afternoon with the Rev. John Samford officiating. Burial was in the Bovee Cemetery.
Oma Olive Young was the daughter of James and Martha Miller-Simms and was born at sims Nov. 8, 1878. Practically all of her life was spent in Wayne County.
She was married to Sylvester Darwin Young on Jan. 3, 1903. He died Oct. 31, 1944. Following the death of her husband and during World War II she spent 15 months in Chicago Heights and returned there in Jan. 1950, to again make her home with her daughter.
Mrs. Young was a member of the Christian Church at Sims.
A daughter, Mrs. Dorothea Porterfield, preceded her on April 19, 1940. Two granddaughters, Shirley and Joann Porterfield made their home with her in Fairfield.
She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Martha Simms, 95, of Sims; one daughter, Mrs. Ruby Cook of Beecher; two sons, Lowell A. Young of Kankakee and Glen B. Young of Detroit; one brother, John Simms of Taylorville, and six sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Legg of Sims, Mrs. Carrie Lass, Mrs. Minnie Burkhart and Mrs. Edna Book of Taylorville, Mrs. Bess Downey and Mrs. Mayme Hodges of Fairfield, and nine grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers for Mrs. young, were Dwight, Jimmy, Kenneth and John Legg, Elmo Lass and Edwin Book. Among those attending the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Lowell A. Young and daughter, Janice of Kankakee, Mr. and Mrs. George Cook and daughter, Mary of Beecher, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Young of Detroit, Mich., Joann Porterfield of Chicago, Shirley Porterfield of Park Ridge, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Book, Mr. and Mrs. Romie Lass, Mrs. Minnie Burkhart and John Simms of Taylorville.
Note: Oma Olive was actually buried in Victory Cemetery.
