He pitched for the Yankees for parts of three seasons, then was purchased by the Pittsburgh Pirates on August 4, 1947. He appeared in 13 games for Pittsburgh. He was then traded on November 18, 1947, along with Jim Russell and Bill Salkeld to the Boston Braves for Johnny Hopp and Danny Murtaugh. He accumulated a lifetime record of 3-3 with a 3.75 ERA. He also played 5 games in the outfield and had a lifetime .293 batting average as well. He was a scout for the New York Mets when he died from a heart attack at age 47 in December 1965.
