Graveside funeral services for Evelyn Eleanor Belcher, 88, of Austin and formerly of Clifton, were held Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at Clifton Cemetery, the Rev. John Austin officiating. Belcher died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, in Austin. She was born Dec. 23, 1915, in Valley Mills, to Julius and Selma Schulze Rachuig. She was raised in Clifton, and graduated from Clifton High School. She married Jack Belcher in 1935, and the couple had one son, Jerry Belcher. She was a faithful member of and organist at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clifton until moving to Houston in 1954. She graduated from Burroughs Business School, and was employed by Fannin State Bank, then Doctors Hospital, before moving to Austin in 1971. She was a devoted longtime employee of Drs. Morris, Robinson, and Goolsby until retiring at the age of 76. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church until moving back to Clifton in 1991. She returned to Austin in 2000, and was a resident of Monte Siesta Retirement Center until her death. Belcher was preceded in death by her spouse; her parents; sisters Hildegard Krueger and Selma Rachuig; and brothers Walter, Herbert, and Edgar Rachuig. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Mert Belcher; and grandsons Toby Belcher and Arthur Hartman. Clifton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
