He enlisted in the 40th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment Company F at the age of 46yrs
He died of Consumption (tuberculosis) in 1879
He is the son of WIlliam Madan 1780-1849 and Hannah Thayer 1782-1827
He was found on Aug 14, 2012 by the research efforts of his 4th great grandson (direct line)and pinpoint burial location from a member of the Weymouth Historical society.
Washington Madan's grandfather was John Madan 1742 born in Cork, Ireland. He served in the 7th Massachusetts regiment during the Revolutionary war.
Many of Washington Madan's descendants would serve in the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, and U.S.M.C. serving in nearly every major conflict or war. Only now in the year 2012 are his present descendants learning of his existence and his service.
Washington Madan 1815 had a son named Washington Madan jr. born in 1835.
Very special Thanks to Jacki E. for creating this memorial. Without her I would not have been able to find my 4th great grandfather.
D.M.
veteran of OIF 2004-2005
Note: his headstone may be spelled MADDAN due to spelling error in his archive military record. His headstone was provided by the Federal Government based off of this military record.
Note: A couple of old records will show him as being born in 1810 (this was just presumably a guess based on when he died) There are no records that prove a birth in 1810 but there are multiple sources and citations that show he was born in 1815.
