BRUCE, MS - Bruce Calhoun Oakley Jr., 88, passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at the Magnolia Personal Care Home in Houston, MS. He was born Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1914, to Bruce Calhoun Oakley Sr. and Elizabeth Lucille Holland Oakley in Memphis, TN. He was a retired yard foreman and lumber inspector for E.L. Bruce Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Bruce United Methodist Church and a Mississippi Historian. He was a member of the American Philatelic Society and an avid stamp collector.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Bruce United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dale Carson and the Rev. Rex Wilburn officiating. Burial will be in the Bruce Cemetery. Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Bruce is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include a son, Robert Edward Oakley and his wife, Charlotte, of Bruce; two grandchildren, Suzanne Oakley of Bruce and Robert Oakley of Oxford; a sister, Virginia Oakley of Memphis. Mr. Oakley was preceded in death by his wife, Lily Lurene Doak Oakley on March 28, 2000.

Pallbearers will be Robert Oakley, Jerry Beckett, Mallon Henry, B.J. Bennett, Larry Collins, Jerry Palazolo, David Bramlitt and Hugh Mitchell Cannon.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. until service time Sunday at the funeral home.
