Cristopher enlisted and mustered into "G" Co., Kentucky 23rd Infantry, 16 December 1861 at Camp King as a Private. He was discharged for disability on 28 February 1863 at Nashville, Tennessee.

He enlisted on 12 August 1863 at Falmouth, Kentucky as a Sergeant. On 31 August he mustered into "F" Co. Kentucky 40th Mounted Infantry. He was mustered out on 30 December 1864 at Catlettsburg, Boyd Co., Kentucky. Promotions: Capt. 24 July 1864 [not mustered].
