Mrs. Martin Georgenson, 81, of 929 N. 14th St., Manitowoc, wife of
the former mayor of the City of Manitowoc, died Wednesday afternoon
at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, after a short illness.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church
Chapel, Manitowoc, with the Rev. Paul Running officiating. Burial
will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
The former Mary Nemetz was born April 16, 1881, at Manitowoc, daughter
of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nemetz. She was married to Robert L.
Murray at Manitowoc in May of 1899. He died on August of 1912. She was
married to Martin Georgenson, mayor of Manitowoc 21 years, in 1919.
Late in November of 1943 Mrs. Georgenson christened the 303-foot U.S.
Frigate Manitowoc, one of a fleet of such craft built at the Globe Ship
Building co., Superior, during World War II.
Mrs. Georgenson is survived by her husband, three sons, Robert A. Murray
of Oshkosh, Lafoie O. Murray of Manitowoc and Orland H. Murray of
Milwaukee, a daughter, Mrs. Robert E. Hansen of Milwaukee; two step-sons,
Hubert and Walton Georgenson of Manitowoc; three step-daughters, Mrs.
Orvis E. Hanier of Milwaukee, Mrs. Loring Ebersold of Finlay, Ohio, and
Mrs. Harold Klokker of Bremerton, Wash.; a brother, Frank Nemetz of
Manitowoc; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Mae Thiesen and Miss Emma Nemetz of
Green Bay; 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the funeral chapel after 7 o'clock this Thursday
evening.
