JAMES L. GILL

James Gill, 88, of 422 N. Fifth St., Manitowoc, died Monday evening at home.
He had been in ill health six years.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Mittnacht Funeral Home,
Manitowoc, and at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manitowoc, the Rev.
Claude LeClair officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Gill was born Jan. 25, 1873, in the Town of Maple Grove, son of the late
Lawrence and Mary Morrissey Gill. He attended North High School at Manitowoc
and Oshkosh State Teachers College. He taught in various schools in Manitowoc
and Calumet counties for 12 years.
He married Mary Bohman June 1, 1904 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Brillion, and
they lived on the homestead farm at Maple Grove, which he operated until 1933
when he came to Manitowoc. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in
1954.
Since he came to Manitowoc in 1933 he had been engaged in the business of real
estate and auctioneering until his illness in 1955. He was a member of the Holy
Name Society of Sacred Heart church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, George, of Rt. 1, Reedsville, and John,
at home; five daughters, Mrs. Irving Maney, of Rt. 2, Reedsville, Mrs. Wencil
Schleis, Mrs. Harlan Clark, Mrs. Robert Johaney and Mrs. Clarence Jerabek, of
Manitowoc; two sisters, Mrs. Steve King, of Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. John Neuser,
of Manitowoc; 19 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday where the Rosary
will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday by the Manitowoc Council of Catholic
Nurses and at 8 p.m. by the Holy Name Society of Sacred Heart Parish.
