Retired Dentist, Dr. J. V. Miller, Is Dead Here at 83.
Dr. J.V. Miller, 83, who, when he retired in 1938, was the oldest practicing
dentist in Manitowoc county, died Thursday afternoon at the home of his daughter,
Mrs. E. J. Koutnik, of 1415 Michigan avenue.
Funeral services will be held at 2p.m. Saturday at the Masonic Temple with
interment in Evergreen cemetery. Dr. Miller joined the order at Kaukauna in
1892.
Dr. Miller was born in this city in 1865 and was graduated from the dental
school of Ohio university 58 years ago. He opened a dental practice at Kaukauna
in 1891 and in 1893 married Miss Olga Seeger of this city.
After four years at Kaukauna he located here to open a practice with Doctors
Charles and Ernst Seeger under the name of Seeger Bros. and Miller. Later he
opened his own office when he was joined by Dr. G. W. Blaesser, who came here
from Cedarburg. He retired 11 years ago.
In 1942 Dr. Miller was honored at a testimonial dinner by the Masons, and
presented with a 50-year membership certificate. Mr. and Mrs. Miller observed
their golden wedding anniversary in 1943. Mrs. Miller died two and a half years
ago.
Dr. Miller was a charter member of the Rotary club, serving as the club treasurer
continuously until illness forced him to give up active participation in club
affairs. He had a perfect attendance record at meetings for 27 years. He was also
a charter member of the County Dental society.
Dr. Miller was for years a member of the city park board and was active in that
board when it negotiated the purchase of Lincoln park at the North outskirts of
the city.
Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. E. J. Koutnik of this city and Mrs. Chalmers
Seymour; brother, Frank A. Miller of Los Angeles; twin sisters, Mrs. Frank Krahn
of Kaukauna and Mrs. Frank Post of Milwaukee; and three grand children.
The body may be viewed at the Urbanek and Schlei funeral home after 10 a.m.
Saturday, before removal of the casket to the Masonic temple, where rites will
be held at 2 p.m.
