Evelyn graduated from high school in Grand Forks, ND in 1920. She attended Mayville, ND Teacher's College and UND for one year. She taught in several rural schools and she began working for Colburn School Supplies at Grand Forks and managed the Colburn Book Store at Grand Forks, MN She bought a dress shop in Fertile, MN and ran and operated the dress shop until retiring in 1969 (30 years).
