She was born on January 6, 1925 in Sheboygan daughter of the late Delmar and Hilma (Markwardt) Degen.
She attended grade school and graduated from Sheboygan Central High School, she then furthered her education and graduated from Sheboygan County Teachers College and Lakeland College.
On September 14, 1946 she married Lowell E. Ferguson in Sheboygan. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1996.
Through her working career she worked for HC Prange's as a copy editor, and later taught elementary school in Cascade and in Plymouth at Parkview.
She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Plymouth, a member of Naomi's Circle, in her free time she enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, traveling, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her three children James (Judith) Ferguson of Colorado Springs, Gary (Kathleen) Ferguson of Plymouth, Mark (Louise Speed) Ferguson of Detroit, four grandchildren Stephanie (Ken) Collier, Paul (McKenzie) Ferguson, Cassandra Ferguson, and Erin (Jess Barley) Ferguson, two great grandchildren Alison Matzdorf and Caden Ferguson, two brothers George (Rita) Degen of Plymouth, Richard (Dolores) Degen of Arizona
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Rev. Lowell E. Ferguson, and a sister-in-law LaVerne Degen.
