Alta Mae Berkenbile was born May 23, 1920 the daughter of Lawrence W. and Estella I. (Nichols) Morris in Dover, and passed away Sunday, August 12, 2012, in Enid.
She attended school in Dover and Hennessey and grew up in Dover, Oklahoma.
She married Delmar Berkenbile Sept. 29, 1940. She was a co-worker with her husband on their farms near Hennessey, Garber and Hunter. In the spring of 1950, they moved to a farm in Hunter.
She was a longtime member of Hunter Christian Church, Mothers' Recreation Club, and volunteered as a "Cheery Cherry Lady" at Bass Hospital and a volunteer for St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. Alta Mae was a loving, hard-working Christian lady, and an excellent cook. The family wishes to express appreciation to Ross Hospice, Golden Oaks Skilled Nursing Staff, and Central Christian Church for their loving support of their mother.
Alta Mae is survived by her children: Joyce and Merle Young of Mt. Home, Idaho, Patricia and Walter Jenkins of Enid, Lucretia and Gary Mills of Mansfield, Texas, Jaquita and Jerry Icenhower of Yukon, Dean and Karen Berkenbile of Hunter, and Chuck and Trish Berkenbile of Haleyville, Alabama; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-granchildren; and loving pet, Monty.
She was preceded in death by her husband Delmar, her parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
Memorials may be made to Hunter Christian Church Building Fund.
