Born Francis Aldophe Griffith, he was the son of Francis Samuel "Frank" Griffith and Christina Sylvia Walsh, husband of Norma Way, whom he married in 1952 in Manhattan, New York. Brother of Cicely Beatrice, Lindsay Waverly, Vivian Patrick, Louise (married James J. McGeechan), and Marie Agnes Griffith. Grandson of Patrick Walsh and Mary; and Frank Abney Griffith.

In 1910, Frank Griffith, aged 6, was living in Manhattan, New York, with his parents, Frank S. Griffith, aged 41, and Christine Griffith, aged 35, with siblings, Lindsay Griffith, aged 18, Vivian Griffith, aged 15, Louise Griffith, aged 12, Mary Griffith, aged 9, grandmother, Mary Walsh, aged 65, and Beatrice Walsh, aged 13. His father was shown to be a carpenter for a parquet company.

Ballroom dancer. In 1944 Frank and Norma appeared in "Dance with a Dolly." They appeared during the instrumental break where there was a quick-cut to a "street scene". In the "street" we see the husband and wife dance team of "Gaylord and Norma" (Frank Gaylord & Norma Griffith, minor stars of niteclubs & early television).

Obituary - Frank Gaylord Griffith, 78, of Long Beach, L.I., for many years part of the internationally known ballroom dance team of Frank and Norma Gaylord, will be buried following at 10 a.m. funeral service tomorrow in Vanella Funeral Chapel, Long Beach Road, Oceanside, L.I. He died Sunday after a short illness. The New York City native began his dance career in the early 1930s but won renown after teaming up with Norma Way, who became his wife. They danced in hotels, night clubs, on TV and on cruiseships. Griffith became a cruise director on American Export Line ships to the carribbean. He is survived by his wife and two nieces, Gloria Sousa and Susan Coates.
