Olympic Alpine Skier. She was the first Alpine star who won 12 world titles from 1934 to 1939 and three silver medals, along with two gold medals in the Alpine combined at the 1936 Olympics. In 1991, she was inducted into the International Women's Sports Hall of Fame and she remains Germany's most-decorated women's skier. She died of natural causes at age 90, in her home village of Oberstaufen in the Bavarian Alps.
