McMahan Family records indicate Thomas McMahan was born 28Aug1819 in Muskingum County, Ohio. He was a member of the Baptist Church most of his life. In 1839 he married Ruth Ann Stamets who died in Knox County, Ohio (July)1850. To them, was born Joseph McMahan (and at least one other child, named Rebecca).
In Oct 1850 Thomas married Sarah F Grigsby. who died in 1924 in Oklahoma. The following children were born to Thomas and Sarah: Orwell, Orange, Hart (Harrison), Milton, (Clifford) Osa and a daughter, Safrona.

The following obituary is from THE COURIER: Waterloo, Iowa, Wednesday, January 9, 1889

"DEATH OF AN OLD SETTLER:--Thomas Mcmahan who came to Orange township about 22 years ago and resided in that township and this city for 18 years, died in Rice Co., Kansas, Dec. 28, of asthma with which disease he suffered for many years. Deceased was about 70 years of age and leaves a wife and 8 children. He was born in Ohio and came from Knox county in that State, to this county. After residing in Orange township a number of years, he moved to this city and lived here something over a year before his departure to Kansas. He was a consistent member of the First Baptist church of this city and was an honest man and one who was highly respected by everyone who knew him."
