Luvania (Bonnie) Carpenter, 91, of Pleasant Valley died July 7, 2012 at her residence; family and friends were at her side.

She was born March 9, 1921 on Miracle Run (Monongalia County), the daughter of the late Harley Leslie and Nora Jane (Eddy) Gump. She was married to Oscar Olen Carpenter for 64+ years, he died in 2002.

Luvania was preceded in death by her parents, 12 of her 13 brothers and sisters, her husband, and her oldest son Jerry Lee who died of diabetic complications in 1983.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Sandy Carpenter of Morgantown. She is also survived by a sister, Ellen Booth, of Youngstown Ohio; a sister-in-law, Mamie Joliffe, of Fairmont; and a brother-in-law, Columbus (Bud) Orie Carpenter, of Fairmont.

Luvania had six grandchildren, Scottie Lee of Phoenix AZ; Kimberly Rae of Meadville PA, Jerry Lee and his wife Jo Ellen of Charleston, Todd Jason and his wife Amie of Pittsburgh PA, Kristin Leigh Savage and her husband Jeffrey of Morgantown, and Keira Leanne McCabe and her husband Christopher of Morgantown.

She was blessed with eleven Great Grandchildren: Stephanie Danielle and Colby Olen Carpenter of Meadville; Travis Lee Carpenter of Toledo; Alyssa Marie, Ty Mason, and Cassandra (Cassie) Eve Carpenter of Pittsburgh; Brady Keith, Chase Jeffrey, and Beau Alexander Savage of Morgantown; and, Maddox Evan and Manning Lee McCabe of Morgantown.

Luvania was a member of the Valley Chapel United Methodist Church.
She had strong family ties with her 13 brothers & sisters; and, she was a devoted mother to her two sons. During WWII, she worked at the Owens Illinois Bottling Plant; and from 1955 to 1975 she and her husband worked and/or co-owned/managed several movie theaters in the towns of Fairmont, Morgantown, Mannington, and Hundred.

She was very supportive and would often be seen with her husband at Democratic political functions, the Pleasant Valley PTA meetings during the 60's, Lions Club activities, Veterans of Foreign Wars gatherings, Marion County Planning Commission events, Marion County Parks & Recreation activities, organizational meetings for the Kingmill Public Service District and efforts to incorporate the City of Pleasant Valley.

Pastors Sheila and Scott Hill were simply "angels on earth" during the past several years to provide primary care for Bonnie. And, most recently Bonnie was very blessed with special "angels" who helped in her care; specifically Jackie Stiles and Linda Alvero. Over the years other "angels" have helped including Gerry Freeland, Casey Grandstaff, Amanda Mundell, Amanda Channel and David Dodd.

Family and friends may call at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont from 3-8 pm Monday, and 11 am -1 pm on Tuesday. Service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 pm with Pastor Sheila Hill presiding. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Morgantown. After services at Beverly Hills, a reception will be held in Morgantown at the home of her son.
