ALEXANDRIA -- Larry "Joe" Allen, 66, died Thursday in Community Hospital, Anderson, after a sudden illness.

The lifelong Alexandria resident was born to the late Russell and Naomi (Robertson) Allen and served in the Army. He married his wife of 42 years, Kay "Willey" Allen, on Feb. 24, 1962. She survives. In 1996, he retired from Delco-Remy after 35 years of employment.

He was a member of the UAW Local 662. He spent many years bowling, coaching YABA and Little League baseball. He was an avid Indiana University and New York Yankees fan. He enjoyed working on genealogy and spending time with his friends at Plaza Bowl, Marion. His pride and joy in life was the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He also leaves to cherish his memory; two sons, DeWayne (Denay) Allen, LaFontaine, and Scott (Debbie) Allen, Alexandria; two daughters, Deanna (Larry) Tumulty, Daleville, and Denise (Jim) Bevel, Middletown; grandchildren, Cameron, Emily, Jordanne, Jarod, Zachary, Aaron and Peighten; eight stepgrandchildren; a brother, Max "Bud" (Catherine) Allen; sisters, Jean Hexamer, Betty Swift, Doris Balser, Shirley (Ron) Dickinson and Kay Edwards; brothers-in-law, Joe (Sandy) Willey, Pat (Enola) Willey; sisters-in-law, Mary (Benny) Bilbrey, Sandy Mendenhall, and Rose (Don) Hunt; aunt, Gertrude Robertson; and several special nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Allen; and a sister, Vivian Ault.

Services are at 11 a.m. Monday in Noffze Funeral Home, 501 N. Harrison St., with the Rev. Jerry Young of Christian Congregation Church officiating. Burial is in Park View Cemetery.

Visitation is from 3-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
