December 5, 1906 – September 26, 2004

RALSTON, James Forsythe — was born on December 5, 1906, in Aspen, Colorado, to James Hunter Ralston and LeNeve Fiske. He passed away on September 26, 2004, in Pasco, Washington.

James lived full time in the Tri-Cities for the past five years. At the age of 5, James moved with his family from Moab, Utah, in a horse drawn covered wagon settling in Bend, Oregon. James was a logger and mill worker. When young he flew bi-planes and was a barnstormer. He piloted the first plane to land in Long Creek, Oregon.

On June 22, 1937, James married Elres Mable Willingham in Walla Walla, Washington, and they moved to Camas Valley, Oregon, in 1948 where he continued logging and millwork until he retired. After retiring James helped build the Camas Valley Community Church where he served as an Elder, taught Sunday School and served on the Church Board. James had eighteen acres and kept livestock until the age of 85, when he had brain surgery.

James was a devoted husband and took care of his wife at home when she developed Alzheimers. James never gave up his love of planes and at age 90, took the controls while flying with his nephew.

James is preceded in death by his wife, Elres; he is survived by his children, Carol Surrency and her husband, James of Hillsboro, Oregon; Jane Anderson and her husband, Glenn of Pleasant Hill, California; Ronald Ralston of Haynes, Alaska; and Gregory Ralston and his wife, Margaret of Richland, Washington. He also leaves behind his grandchildren; Melinda Surrency; Brianna Marquez; Dave and Sy Cowie; Lynn Anderson; David and Jason Ralston; Jon; Jim and Kaitlin Ralston.

There will be a graveside service for James on Wednesday, the 29th of September, 2004, at 12 noon, at Long Creek Cemetery in Long Creek, Oregon.
