He didn't distill liquor, instead he ran untaxed liquor. Not trusting banks, he put his fortune (whatever amount that was) in glass jars and buried them near his home. He was jailed and during the time he was in prison, his wife dug up most of his savings. When he returned to Attala County, he was a broken man and died soon after.
