On February 5, 1818, he married Anna Maria Boyd in Berkeley County, Virginia which is now West Virginia. He served as a Justice in the Peace in the District of Columbia. After his death in 1850, his son, Elisha Browne Hogmire, legally changed his surname to Boyd. Some of his other children also used the surname Boyd instead of Hogmire although it appears that they did not legally change their surname.
