Charles Edwin Abernathy, 83, of Athens, AL, passed away Friday, August 17, 2012 at his residence.

Mr. Abernathy was born October 26, 1928 in Limestone County, AL, and was a member of the Ephesus Church of Christ in Athens. He was retired from Wright-Lopez, was an avid CB Radio Operator with the handle "Casey Jones" and was a real estate investor.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Tena Payne Abernathy.

Survivors include a son, Roger Dale Abernathy and wife Paula of Athens; daughters, Shirley A. Haney and husband Jimmy Don and Carol Blackwood and husband Felton, all of Decatur; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Elton Abernathy, Ellis Abernathy and Wesley Abernathy, all of Athens; four sisters, Betty Eubanks, Toney, AL, Katherine Bowers, Athens, AL, Margaret Smith, Huntsville, AL and Patricia Simmons, Athens, AL; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 19, 2012, at Spry Funeral Home with Robert Fudge officiating. Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens.
