Hampden, Massachusetts – Laurie L. (Gibson) Ryder, 55, of Hampden, died Thursday, August 9, 2012, at Kindred Hospital Park View in Springfield, Mass., after an illness.
Born in Putnam, Connecticut, Mrs. Ryder attended Putnam public schools and the former Putnam Catholic Academy and was a former member of the Living Faith United Methodist Church in Putnam. She graduated from Minnechaug Regional High School in Wilbraham, Mass.
She was at the time of her death a police dispatcher in Hampden. She was also a retired Hampden police officer.
A dedicated animal lover and an accomplished, lifelong horsewoman, Mrs. Ryder was an equestrian gymkhana and barrel racing champion.
She is survived by her much-loved granddaughter, Morgan Cloutier, of Agawam, Mass., her son, Jesse Ryder, of Monson, Mass., her mother, Blanche M. Main, of North Stonington, Conn., her aunt, Jacqueline M. Ryan, of Lebanon, Conn. and first cousins John D. Ryan, of Putnam, Conn., Terence D. Ryan, of Stafford Springs, Conn., Catherine A. Walker, of Lebanon, Conn. and Bruce Mullett, of Shiloh, Illinois.
Mrs. Ryder was predeceased by her daughter, Tricia Cloutier, of Monson, Mass., who died in April of 2012.
A graveside service was held on Monday, August 13, at the Old Hampden Cemetery on Chapin Road in Hampden, while a memorial Mass was celebrated on Friday, August 24, in the chapel at the Daughters of the Holy Spirit's U.S.A. Provincial House, on Church Street in Putnam.
