RITES SET FOR FORMER INFIELDER
Funeral services for John F. Alloway, an Oakland native and professional baseball player, will be held at 1 pm tomorrow at Grant Miller Mortuary, 2850 Telegraph Ave.
Mr. Alloway died at his Hayward home at the age of 67.
He started playing professional baseball at age 15 in the Valley League shortly after he moved with his family to Sacramento in 1917. Mr. Alloway, called "Champ" by his baseball friends, went to the Sacramento Solons of the Coast League in 1927.
The second baseman played with the major league Detroit Tigers in 1928 and went back to the Solons two years later. Mr. Alloway was in Africa and Italy with the U.S. Army during World War II.
