On January 27,1965 William Bone, 5'11" tall, and 18 years old, enrolled as a private in CO E 50TH MO INF during the Civil War. His brothers Isaac and Benjamin F. Bone also served as Union Volunteer Soldiers in CO 50TH MO INF.
William became ill on Feb 05, 1665 and was at the small pox hospital until April 13Th 1865 at Benton Barracks, MO. He returned to duty and made role call in May and June. But, was hospitalized again on June 25Th for an incised wound of the right foot (He later lost his life in 1918 because of gangrene of the foot). On Aug 2, 1865, William was in the Post Hospital at Benton Barracks MO because of dysentery. However, once again he was able to report back to duty.
On Aug 11, 1865, William and his brothers Issac and Benjamin F. Bone were all three mustered out from service.
By 1875 William was drawing a pension as an invalid, he died in 1918, and Wm Bone's military tombstone was placed in 1919.
