ROCK HILL - Mr. Wayne Franklin Austin, 87, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at his home.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at Sisk Memorial Baptist Church, with Dr. Larry Harrison officiating. Burial will be at Philadelphia United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Born in Burlington, N.C., Mr. Austin was one of eleven children born to the late Marshall Travis Austin and Hattie Margie Thompson Austin. He served in the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Hornet during World War II. Mr. Austin was retired from General Tire and was a member of Sisk Memorial Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and working in his yard.
Surviving are his wife, Betty J. Nuttall Wilson Austin; two sons, Jay Austin of Central and Paul Austin and his wife, Paulette, of Lincolnton, N.C.; his daughter, Reba A. Crimminger of Lugoff; his brother, Kenneth Austin of Concord, N.C.; his sister, Lorene Cooke of Concord, N.C.; five grandchildren; Twelve great-grandchildren; and six stepchildren, Gerald Wilson of Elsie, Mich., Paul Wilson of Lansing, Mich., Vicki Belk of Winston-Salem, N.C., Debra Harrison of Gaston, S.C., Gail Koporetz of Richland, Mich., and Tom Wilson of Centreville, Mich. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Smith Austin (2002); brothers, John Henry Austin, Sanford Austin, Charlie Austin, Melvin Austin and Farley Austin; and sisters, Zula Gardner, Myrtle Wallace and Thelma Hedrick.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at Sisk Memorial Baptist Church, and other times at the home,
