Marie Opal Beamon, 83, of Cadillac, died peacefully on August 11, 2011, at Lakeview Lutheran Manor after an illness of five years.

Born on February 24, 1928, in the coal town of Rhodell, West Virginia, to the late Charles Oscar Beamon Sr. and Nannie Blevins Beamon.

Marie attended Rhodell School until the eighth grade. In her adulthood she would become an employee for a taxi cab company, and then to a dry cleaners. By 1963, Marie made the decision to move to Detroit, Michigan where her family saw great opportunity. Upon her arrival to Detroit she received a job at General Motors as a press operator. She would work for GM for the next 30 years and would retire in 1993.

Ms. Beamon was a resident of the Detroit area for 42 years before moving to Cadillac in 2005. She was an avid bowler at Oxford Lanes in Dearborn, loved playing cards, and spending time with her family; she will be remembered for being humorous, ornery, and undaunted.

Those left to cherish her memory are her siblings and their spouses: Mrs. Janie Krantz and her husband H. Marshall Krantz of Leroy; brother, Mr. Darrell W. Beamon Sr. and his wife Betty Beamon of Dearborn Heights; special sister-in-law, Mrs. Virginia (William†) Beamon of Beckley, West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews including their families.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded into her passing by her paternal grandparents Riley and Laura Beamon of North Carolina; maternal grandparents Hampton and Nancy Jane Blevins of Whitetop, Virginia; four brothers, William (Virginia) Beamon in 2009, Basil Beamon in 1924, Charles (Rosemary) Beamon Jr. in 1997, and Robert E. Beamon in 1960; two sisters, Gladys Beamon Pritchett in 2008, and Evelyn K. Beamon in February 2011.
