Nannie Beamon, 88, of Dearborn Heights, formerly of Rhodell, West Virginia, passed away on Monday, October 27, 1986 after a short illness.
Born on May 18, 1898 at Whitetop, Virginia she was the second daughter of the late Hampton (1871-1940) and Nancy Jane Blevins (1871-1950). She married Charles Oscar Beamon Sr. on the 6th of May 1918, at Dott, West Virginia, a small mining community. She had lived in the coal town of Rhodell, West Virginia in Tommy Creek Hollow for almost 35 years before moving to the Detroit area in 1956 where she resided for the past 30 years. Mrs. Beamon was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and a friend to everyone she met. She had no formal education and could not read and could not write. Nannie never saw it as a weakness, but only something to strengthen her dexterity in other experiences. She was the matriarch of her family, a Christian who valued honest people, and was an excellent card player.
She is survived by three sons, Mr. William (Virginia) Beamon of Beckley, West Virginia, Mr. Charles O. Beamon Jr. and Mr. Darrell (Betty) Beamon Sr. of Dearborn Heights; four daughters, Mrs. Gladys Pritchett of Rhodell, West Virginia, Miss Marie Beamon, Miss Evelyn Beamon, and Mrs. Janie (Hubert) Krantz all of Dearborn Heights; twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews - and a host of family and friends also survive.
Mrs. Beamon was preceded into her passing by her parents, Hampton and Jane Blevins; husband, Charles Oscar Beamon Sr. of 44 years; two sons, Basil and Robert Beamon; brothers, Roscoe (Allie), John (Eunice), Dewey (Minnie), and Carl (Lockie) Blevins; sisters, Mrs. Amanda (Rudy) Shepherd, Mrs. Cindy (Harding) Townsend, Ms. Lindy Blevins and Mrs. Dovie (Thomas) Farmer.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, at the Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Sophia, W. Va, burial will proceed in Sunset Memorial Park, grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Gary Eskins is officiating.
