Civil and Indian Wars veteran; Company G, 2nd Minnesota Cavalry. He also went by the first name "Friedrich". At the time of the US-Dakota War in 1862, he was a resident of New Ulm and a member of the state militia. He participated in both of the Battles of New Ulm. At age 22, he mustered in to the 2nd Minnesota Infantry on July 8, 1861 as a Second Lieutenant in Company G. He resigned on July 18, 1862. Just a month later, he helped organize and lead the New Ulm militia when the US-Dakota War broke out. After the war, he joined the 2nd Minnesota Cavalry, mustering in to Company G on Nov. 16, 1862 and serving as First Sergeant. He mustered out on Dec. 29, 1865 and went back to his home town of New Ulm. The residents of New Ulm elected him as their sheriff.

He committed suicide on Feb. 10, 1865. He was 30 years of age.
