Wheaton, IL — Former Wheaton St. Francis High School volleyball star Megan Boken was shot and killed Saturday in St. Louis, according to media reports. Boken, 23, a former All-State volleyball player in Wheaton and four-year member of the Saint Louis University volleyball team, was shot to death while she was in her car in the Central West End of the city, according to media reports. Boken was in St. Louis for her alma mater's annual alumni volleyball game. Boken graduated from the SLU's John Cook School of Business with a bachelor's degree in business administration in 2011, according to the university. "We are shocked and saddened by this terrible and tragic loss," the school said in a statement. "Megan was a truly outstanding student-athlete who excelled in the classroom and on the court. She exemplified the very best of what it means to be a Saint Louis University Billiken. Our focus right now is on providing as much support as we can for our students, and our thoughts and prayers are with Megan's family and friends during this very difficult time." Boken was a member of the Spartans' 2004 and 2006 state championship teams, and played on Billiken teams that won Atlantic 10 Conference regular-season titles in 2008 and 2009 and made NCAA Championship appearances the same two years. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, she was found with gunshot wounds to her neck and chest at about 2:20 p.m., and was taken to Barnes Jewish Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police told the Post-Dispatch that witnesses reported a man either get out of her Volkswagen or open the door to the vehicle. The two appeared to argue and shout, police said. The man allegedly then fired two shots into the vehicle and left the scene before police arrived.

Boken was a starting volleyball player all four years at St. Louis University. A Wednesday visitation is planned at St. Francis High School. Boken's funeral is scheduled for Thursday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Wheaton. Boken is survived by her parents, a brother and two sisters.
