BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Aaron Michael Burke, Jr ran off the road around midnight Saturday night near Orton Plantation in Brunswick County, according to the State Highway Patrol.

According to Highway Sgt. TD Wheeler, the 18 year old was air lifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead at approximately 12:45 a.m.

"There was no alcohol, no cell phone involved," said Sgt. Wheeler. "Maybe he fell asleep. There's no way of telling right now."

Aaron Michael Burke Jr., 18, of Oak Island died Sunday, August 19, 2012.

Mr. Burke was born April 4, 1994, in Brunswick County to Aaron Michael Burke Sr. and Dietra Kruse. Aaron grew up in Boiling Spring Lakes and Oak Island and went to South Brunswick High School. He loved football, going to the beach, and wanted to obtain a commercial truck-driving license so he could drive over-the-road with his father.

Surviving are his father, Aaron Michael Burke Sr. and wife Shelly of Wilmington; his mother, Dietra Kruse of Oak Island; two sisters, Anna Burke of Leland and Ashley Burke of Oak Island; his paternal grandparents, Raymond and Charlene Del Pezzo of Oak Island; his maternal grandparents, Robert and Sharon Neal of Oak Island; two uncles, Donovan Burke and wife Robin of Charlotte, and Michael Kruse and wife Nichole of Illinois; two aunts, Robin Beckmann and husband Jeff of Florida, and Jolynn Neal of Boiling Spring Lakes; a niece, Kaylee Urbina; and several cousins.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 24, in the Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Service Chapel with Reverend Charlie Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the Cape Fear Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Aaron's memory to his father, Aaron Michael Burke Sr., 6260 Riverwood Drive, Wilmington, NC 28412.
