Son of Henderson Taylor and Mattie Hall Johnson, husband of Doris Godbold.

MULLINS - Mr. George Washington Johnson, 86, husband of Doris Godbold Johnson, died Saturday, August 18, 2012 at his home.

Mr. Johnson was born February 12, 1926 in Shirley Plantation, Virginia, a son of the late Henderson Taylor Johnson and the late Mattie Hall Johnson.

He was a retired X-Ray and Lab Technician. Mr. Johnson was a US Navy veteran, having served in World War II aboard the USS Atherton. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time eating and fishing with his friends at the Pond Club. Mr. Johnson was a member of Tranquil United Methodist Church.

Surviving Mr. Johnson in addition to his wife of the home are two daughters, Georgette J. Britt of Mullins and Sarah Anne J. Richardson (Russ) of Mooresville, NC; and 3 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, at the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with Rev. Scott Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Devotion Gardens Cemetery.
