CLARENCE EVENSON

Clarence O. Evenson, 91, of Valders died Monday in Manitowoc Health Care Center, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Faith Lutheran Church, Valders. The Rev. Carl Peters will officiate and burial will be in Our Savior Cemetery, Valders.
Mr. Evenson was born May 28, 1886 in Valders, son of the late Christopher and Ingrid Helgeson Evenson. He attended Valders schools and married Isabelle Wood October 26, 1911 in First Presbyterian Church, Manitowoc. She preceded him in death October 9, 1963. He was an original member of Valders Fire Department, former Village assessor for 18 years, Village trustee for 8 years and clerk of Valders School Board for nine years and a member of Faith Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a son, Wesley and a daughter, Mrs. Victor (Eunice) Reimer of Valders; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Nine brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
Friends may call in Christianson-Deja Funeral home, Valders, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

He played an interesting and beneficial life in the history of Valders. As a boy at the age of eight, he rode on the first train to pass through Valders. He became a member of the first Volunteer Fire Department. He saw Valders grow from a community of two homes to its well-settled and progressive size. When Valders was incorporated as a village in 1919. Mr. Evenson was elected a Trustee, and continued to serve for eight years. He served on the Valders School Board for nine years. serving at the time when Valders' first four-year high school was built. He served as Village Assessor for 19 years, from 1950 to 1969.
