RUTH EVENSON

Ruth E. Evenson, age 83, of 3100 Yorkshire Lane, Manitowoc, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006, at the Manitowoc Health Care Center. She was born Feb. 1, 1923, in St. Nazianz, daughter of the late Theodore and Meta (Meyer) Lettenberger. Ruth was a graduate of Valders High School, class of 1941. She also enjoyed her job cooking at Woolworths and making (and tasting) candy at Beernstens. Ruth married her lifetime partner: Wesley Evenson in 1942. Her love for Wesley was a reflection of her faithful and dedicated heart. Her devotion to him over the 64 years they were together was constant. In their years together, they traveled the country, driving out west and visiting family along with historical sites. They were members of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Survivors include her husband: Wesley Evenson, Manitowoc; two sons and daughters-in-law: Lee and Shari Evenson, Gary and Mary Evenson, all of Valders; five grandchildren: Jeff Evenson, Hudson; Brett (Holly) Evenson, Valders; Gretchyn (Jack) Karch, Appleton; Carrie (Nicholas) Kiekhaefer, Appleton; Heather (David) Voss, Menasha; eight great-grandchildren: Kailey, Josh, Jason, Madison, Cole, Jenna, Katelyn and Will; a brother: Donald Lettenberger, Manitowoc; and a brother-in-law: Vic Reimer, Valders. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter; a daughter-in-law: Carol; a sister: Veronica; and two sisters-in-law: Eunice and Rita. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2601 S. 10th St., Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Brian Staude, with burial at Our Savior Cemetery, Valders. The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc, from 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, until the time of service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated in Ruth's name to the Cancer Care Center in Manitowoc. The Christianson & Deja Funeral Home, Valders, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. Ruth enjoyed canning pickles, crocheting, cooking and bringing ice cream torte to family gatherings. A phone conversation with a grandchild while relaxing in her recliner was one of her favorite pastimes. She smiled often and had a gift for embracing others with a hug and kiss. Her compassionate heart made her a blessing to many. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the wonderful people at the Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Cancer Care Center and Manitowoc Health Care Center, for the compassionate care Ruth received the last weeks of her life.
