Bernice Knutson, age 83, of 1010 S. 24th St., Manitowoc, died Saturday evening, Aug. 30, 2003 at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at Faith Lutheran Church, Valders. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Donald Staude with burial at Our Savior Cemetery, Valders. Bernice was born March 24, 1920 in rural Valders, daughter of the late Andrew and Julia Snortum Knutson. She graduated from Valders High School with the Class of 1937. Bernice was employed by local businesses in the Valders area and by the Manitowoc school system for more than 30 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School, was the church organist and was active in bible studies. Survivors include two sisters and one brother-in-law: Jenny Sherven, Manitowoc, and Ruby (Donald) McWilliams, Glendale, Ariz.; special nephews: James Knutson, rural Two Rivers, Allen (Marsha) Sherven and their children, Kristen and Michael, Sheboygan. She is further survived by other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by a brother: Alfred Knutson; a sister: Dagny Knutson; an infant brother; and a niece, Christine Garrigan. The family will greet relatives and friends at Faith Lutheran Church, Valders, on Wednesday morning, Sept. 3, 2003, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Bernice was an avid bird watcher who also enjoyed gardening, craft work and especially enjoyed spending time with her great nieces and nephews. Bernice will be sadly missed by relatives and friends. The Christianson & Deja Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, Valders, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
