Nancy obtained a bachelors degree in home economics from West Virginia University and received a master's degree in foods and nutrition at the University of Missouri-Columbia, Columbia Missouri, where she worked as a research assistant. Later, she taught foods and nutrition at the University of Illinois-Champaign/Urbana and conducted Foods and Nutrition at Michigan State University for several years. Neil served in the United States Army Signal Corps stationed in Monmouth, New Jersey, and was Food Science Professor at North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC. For 25 years, Nancy and Neil were partners in their private business, Webb Technical Group, a research and development and analytical testing organization for the food and environmental industries. Nancy served as president from 1987 to 1995. She was active in several professional organizations and in 1984 received a North Carolina Entrepreneurial Excellence Award. In 1991, Nancy was recognized by the Rotary Club of Raleigh as a Paul Harris Fellow.
