Joseph H.Baker was born in Jan. 21, 1835, in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, the son of Jonathan Baker & Thankful(Smith) Baker, both of whom were born in Nova Scotia.
Joseph H. Baker, a shoe manufacturer, resided at 396 Cabot St., Beverly, Mass. (Death certificate)
He married Ruth Smith Dodge, March 29, 1855, in Beverly, Mass.

A Civil War veteran, Joseph H. Baker was mustered as a Private, August 5, 1862, for three years in Co, G, 23rd Mass. Regt. He was promoted to Sergeant. (Beverly Record Book of Soldiers & Officers, p 106)

He died in Beverly Jan 7, 1916, at the age of 80 years, of Chronic myo-carditis, acute cardiac dilatation. He was married at the time of his death. (Certificate of Death, Beverly City Hall, Beverly, MA.)
