John Baltzer Clinesmith Sr. was born in Germany. He took the Oath of Allegance at the Philadelphia Courthouse on Thursday, Nov. 2, 1752. He married "Mary" in 1778 in Union Co, Pa. and they had three children: John Baltzer Jr, Catherine and Elizabeth.
John was a Private in the Pennsylvania Rangers during the Revolutionary War and died on July 14, 1780 when he was massacred by Indians on his farm near White Springs, Union Co, Pa.
