Benjamin Custer married Mary L Mickey in Henry County, Iowa on 10/10/1846. They had 7 known children: Elizabeth, Isaac, Rebecca, John, Emmaline, Benjamin Franklin, and William. Mary L Custer passed away in 1884 and he married Hester Dawson McKune on 01/07/1887.

Benjamin Custer Died Here Today.
Aged citizen passed away at the home of his son, southwest of town.

Benjamin Custer died this afternoon at 12:30 at the home of his son, John Custer, across the street from the old fair grounds, a short distance southwest of the city. No arrangements for the funeral have been made.

Mr. Custer was an old and well known resident of Washington county. He was eighty-nine years of age, and had lived in the county for many years. He lived on a farm about ten miles southwest of the city for many years, and for the last few months he and his wife have made their home with their son, John Custer. For the last three or four months he has been suffering from cancer of the stomach, and that disease was the cause of his death.

He was twice married, the first wife having passed away twenty-six years ago. He was married to the wife who survives about twenty years ago. The living children are Isaac Custer of Menlo, Kansas, Benjamin F. Custer of Fremont, Nebraska., John Custer, of southwest of town, Will Custer, of Washington, Mrs Elizabeth Church, of Des Moines, who has been here during the illness of her father.

Mr. Custer was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of this city.

Custer Funeral is Tomorrow at 10:30.

The funeral of Benjamin Custer, who died yesterday afternoon at the age of 89 years at the home of his son, John Custer, a short distance southwest of the city, will be held at 10:30 tomorrow morning at the John Custer residence. The service will be in charge of the Rev. U. S. Smith, of the Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Schrock cemetery seven miles south of the city.
B. F. Custer, a son of the deceased, and wife, of Fremont, Nebr., arrived this morning to be in attendance at the funeral.
