Joseph Henry Abramovitz, 79, Neosho, died at Freeman West Hospital, following a two-month illness. He was born July 15, 1931, in Fairview, MO, to Joseph Adam Abramovitz and Mary Katheryn (Stomponski) Abramovitz.
Joe was a lifelong area resident and a 1950 graduate of NHS. He owned and operated Joe's Service Station for 29 years, prior to serving as Newton County Sheriff for 3 terms, a total of 12 years. He was also a cattleman/rancher, which was the love of his life. He was a member of the Sheriff's Posse and the Sheriff's Assoc. Saddle Club, and loved his work in law enforcement, working with the FBI, Highway Patrol and all local law enforcement.
He is survived by his wife, Edwina, of the home; a daughter, Toni Kim Abramovitz, Lee's Summit, MO; a sister, Mary Gable, Tucson, AZ; and 2 nieces.
