"DEATH OF A PROMINENT LAWYER
Walter J. Budd, Sr., one of the best-known members of the older bar, died yesterday of Bright's disease at his residence, 609 North forty-third street. He was a native of Mt. Holly, N. J., began the study of law here in 1849 and was admitted to practice in 1852. In politics he was always a Democrat. Four sons and two daughters survive him."
Walter J. Budd was a descendant of Judge William Budd [Find A Grave Memorial# 111695859], the founder of New Mills, now Pemberton, New Jersey in 1691.
Son of James William Budd [# 111686892] and Sarah Howell Van Wyck [# 111687054]. Walter Budd's father died in 1833, less than three years after his wife, Sarah, died at the birth of their second son, Abraham. James died at Pemberton on 26 Aug 1833, aged 35 years. The circumstances of his death are unknown but the New Jersey Mirror, September 5, 1833, states he died at his residence near Pemberton. After James died, his infant children were raised by his brother, Samuel Woolston Budd. Samuel's son, Samuel Woolston Budd, Jr., was a founding professor of Marshall College. Walter J. Budd graduated from Franklin and Marshall College with an A.B. degree in 1846. His brother, Abraham Van Wyck Budd received his A.B. from Franklin and Marshall College in 1847.
