There are two Matthews and two Temperance of the same time period with families. They are easily confused making the listing of children's names listed here questionable. Matthew James was married to Temperance Hitchcock. Matthew James and Temperance Hitchcock are not the ancestors of at least five of the children listed on this memorial.

Matthew Jackson Caudill and Temperance Fitzpatrick (ancestors of William, the link to the parents) had at least the following children as found on Census Records:

1850 Johnson County, Kentucky
Fanney
Thomas
Nancy

1860 Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky
Fanny
Thomas
Nancy
Emaline (Transcriber has her as Evaline)
Wm.
Daniel
Perlina

1870 Magoffin County, Kentucky

Daniel
Perlina
Welay
Edmond
Martha

1880 Paintsville, Johnson County, Kentucky

Tripheny was found in the 1850 census with the other set of parents (Matthew James and Temperance Hitchcock). Roland and Katherine were not found on any of the census with Matthew Jackson Caudill. There were many Caudills with similar names living in the same area. A search for Caudill Cemetery in Johnson County, Kentucky lists at least 3-5 cemeteries of the same name. Errors are easily made in these situations.
